Life Changes in the Blink of an Eye…are you Ready?

I don’t think I am. The anticipation is building. I’m waiting for an important phone call that has the potential to change the direction of my life. I am nervous about it to the point of a grumpy anxiety. I’m not happy about the way I’m acting and I’m ready to change my state of mind.

Hmmm. Now what?

After a few normal negative thoughts (I’m still training my stubborn brain) it has occurred to me that the best way to feel better is to ask some important questions and talk about it (with you, of course).

What am I afraid of that is causing this anxiety? Change and uncertainty make me nervous. I’m afraid I will get there and be alone or fail.

Ok. That makes sense. Now, what’s the TRUTH? I know that I am never alone. I always have Jane. I also have other options and I always have people available to help me. I don’t even believe in failure. Everything is a learning experience and, one way or another, I will succeed.

How can I reframe it so I can look at it differently? Surely there are things I haven’t even seen yet. For starters, this would be a great opportunity for me to experience a greater depth of family (one that I haven’t had before). I can find new places to enjoy and new friends and chosen family to love. It would be adding to my life, not taking away. I will grow more as a person and learn new things. I have a chance to strengthen my ability to stand up for myself. I even have the opportunity to add a new set of coaching skills through my deeper understanding of changes. I’m certain that as more time passes I will be able to think of more things.

Those are some pretty great ways to feel better about the situation! Now its time to embrace those as real possibilities and hold them close as I go through this nerve wracking time as I practice a new way of dealing with this new set of potential changes.

Keys:

  • Ask yourself important questions and work through them.
  • Reframe your thoughts to a positive place.
  • Embrace those new thoughts.

Through it all it’s important to remember to be kind to yourself and to BREATHE! This too shall pass…you may as well enjoy your time until it does!
